Dustin Johnson’s fiance, Paulina Gretzky, suffered a leg injury just days before the start of the Ryder Cup, and has now taken to social media to show her followers a huge cast on her left leg.

This comes just a few days after her and Johnson were spotted partying on a boat alongside friends.

She wrote on her Instagram story: “Just my luck before the Ryder Cup.”

Even with the injury to Paulina, the former world number one has remained very much focused on his fifth appearance at the biennial event.

Team U.S arrived early at Whistling Straights to practice before the start of the tournament.

They are looking to repair their reputation, after only winning twice since 2002, with their opponents dominating.

So far, things are going well, with a dominant opening two sessions, to take a 6-2 lead over Europe.

Despite being early days, it is already a commanding score, and the biggest first day advantage since 1975.

It is also only the fourth time the Americans have won the opening two sessions since the Ryder Cup expanded to include all of Europe in 1979.

Johnson, alongside Xander Shauffele, have led the US, as each of them went 2-0 up with different partners.

One of the 37-year-olds stand-out moments has been a tricky downhill putt for birdie.

This gave him and his partner a 3-up lead over Bernd Wiesberger and Paul Casey.

Johnson made his Ryder Cup debut in 2010, and despite a record of 7-9-0, he remains an integral part of the squad due to his experience.

Although he has struggled in the four-ball and the foursome formats, he holds a singles record of 3-1-0.

Despite his successful career in golf, which includes victories in The Masters and the US Open, he has only been on the winning side of one Ryder Cup.
