Carolina Panthers star Efe Obada has admitted he didn’t even know who Tom Brady was ten years ago.
Obada, who spent part of his childhood in London, sacked the six-time Super Bowl winner during the Panthers loss to Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It’s been a hell of a journey for the defensive end, who was signed by the Panthers through the NFL’s International Player Pathway.
Obada is now a regular on the Panthers D-line, despite initially being cut at the start of the season.
And when asked how he would have reacted if somebody mentioned to him in 2010 that he’d be sacking Brady, 28-year-old Obada opened up on his brilliant career.
“First of all I’d have said who is Tom Brady?” Obada laughed in a conference call with media from the UK, including Daily Star Sport .
“I didn’t know anything about football but afterwards, when I started playing, if somebody had said that then I wouldn’t believe them.
“I’m happy, I’m real chuffed. Anybody that comes after me from the academy, I did it first, I sacked Tom Brady!”
Obada was waived by the Panthers in September, before re-signing with the team the very next day.
The NFC South side have struggled in one of the toughest divisions in football being 3-7, though Obada is focusing on the positives.
“I don’t feel like the results match the work behind the scenes,” he added.
“You have to take your hat off to the teams that have won against us but I think we are a great team.
“We are still trying to figure out some things and there are bits we need to work on. Defence needs to figure out how to get off from third down.
“I’m not going to make any excuses, we need to play better. It’s a tough division but you embrace it as a competitor.”
