Peter Wright has doubled down on his claim that the top female players in darts should be rewarded with a tour card to play at the top of the men’s game, following his nail-biting victory over Fallon Sherrock.
Wright saw off the Queen of the Palace in a cracker of a quarter-final at the Grand Slam of Darts, as he prevailed courtesy of a 16-13 victory over the battling Sherrock.
Ahead of his tie with the 27-year-old, Wright sang the praises of his female opponent, calling for the PDC to reward the top darts players from the Women’s Series with a tour card.
When asked about if winning the Women’s Series should be merited with full PDC membership Snakebite said: “It should be but it is not up to me.”
“It is disappointing for the top two women not to [earn a card] because they’ll want to raise their game to higher levels.”

He went on to add that both Sherrock and Lisa Ashton – who has also made a name for herself in the men’s game – should be playing alongside the world’s best in order for them to improve.
Wright added: “No disrespect to all the other ladies that are coming through and trying, and stuff like that but Lisa and Fallon are the ones who are doing 100 averages, 90 averages all the time.
“That [earning a tour card] will only improve their darts, so hopefully the rules change and they can get a tour card.”
Following this, the former world champion echoed his pre-match comments after the game and heaped praise on his battling opponent, adding that he believes the Queen of the Palace deserves a place in the lucrative Premier League.
Wright said: “The Premier League is the biggest darts show in the world. This lady [Sherrock] deserves a place in the Premier League… I had to play at my best there to beat her.”
Sherrock herself was questioned about potentially earning a full tour card if she had prevailed in her last eight tie, however she admitted the only thing she was concentrating on was her performance on the night.
When asked if the thought of a tour card was in the back of her mind during the match she replied: “You know what, I don’t even know. I literally just got up, played my game and just try and put everything behind me.
“I don’t want to put all the pressure on myself. You know if I get a tour card, I get a tour card. If I go to Q-school and get a tour card but if not I’ll just go again next year.”
Wright will now take on Michael Smith in the final four for a place in the final, to take on either Gerwyn Price or James Wade.
However the Snakebite admitted that his game needs to improve if he is to go on and win the event.
He commented: “Obviously I’ve got to improve. Michael Smith played some fantastic darts. I did have a go at him earlier [asking] ‘why do you practice so much?’ and that is why he practices so much because he beat Michael Van Gerwen.”
