Three Wimbledon security guards arrested for fighting among themselves at SW19

Three security guards have been arrested at Wimbledon – for fighting among themselves.

Tennis fans watched in amazement as the trio slugged it out outside Court No2. One spectator was heard shouting: "Someone call security."

Police dashed to the scene and arrested them on suspicion of affray. A source said the bust-up happened after one of the men – employed by a separate security company unconnected to Wimbledon which is contracted to help police the championships – accused another of taking a three-hour lunch break.

One fan said: "It’s ridiculous. They’re supposed to be stopping fights – not starting them."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "At 2pm on Friday July 1 officers on duty at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships were alerted to an altercation within the grounds.

"Officers attended and three men working at the event were arrested on suspicion of affray. There were no reports of any injuries.

"They were taken into custody and were later bailed until a date in late July."

The security company spokesman had not responded to a request for comment on Wednesday.

Wimbledon declined to comment.
