Boxing: Joshua steps up prep for title defence with Pulev

Anthony Joshua takes on Kubrat Pulev at Wembley’s SSE Arena tonight with a mega-fight against Tyson Fury on the horizon. There are plenty of enticing bout on the undercard in the lead-up to the main event, with Pulev confident of upsetting the odds and derailing the potential showdown between Joshua and Fury.

“I feel healthy and happy. I have a lot of energy,” said the Bulgarian.

“After the fight and after the win, I will be really happy.

“I think after this fight I’m going to fight with Tyson Fury. It will be good.

“I don’t believe that the Joshua vs Fury fight is going to happen because I will win on Saturday night.

“I think the world needs a new world champion like me. I am the new world champion. I am coming.”

Among the undercard fights is Hackney cruiserweight star Lawrence Okolie, who takes on Poland’s undefeated Nikodem Jezewski.

Jezewski’s compatriot Mariusz Wach will be in action against Hughie Fury, cousin of Tyson.

The Vacant WBC International heavyweight title is also up for grabs, with Martin Bakole and Sergey Kuzmin going head-to-head.

Elsewhere, highly-rated Albanian Florian Marku, who recently signed a multi-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, takes on Derby’s Alex Fearon in a welterweight clash.
