Bob Arum drops Anthony Joshua bombshell by revealing Pulev fight won't be in UK

Bob Arum has denied Eddie Hearn’s claims Anthony Joshua’s clash with Kubrat Pulev is set to go ahead at Tottenham Stadium this summer.

Hearn revealed this week a 20 June fight deal was all agreed for Joshua to take on his IBF mandatory.

Joshua would prefer to fight newly crowned WBC champion Tyson Fury next, but Hearn has repeatedly assured fans the Pulev fight would be in the UK.

But Arum, who promotes Pulev as well as Fury, has now insisted the Bulgarian would not be signing any deal and wants to proceed to purse bids.

‘Anyone talking about an Anthony Joshua fight with Tyson Fury is very premature,’ Arum told World Boxing News.

‘Joshua has to fight Pulev and we have a big problem with the site. For Pulev and Joshua, the British Board are not being very co-operative.

‘Pulev is now going to go to purse bid because he doesn’t want to fight in the United Kingdom.’

He added: ‘We are just not going to do the fight in the UK. Because we don’t get a level playing field.’

Hearn began campaigning for Joshua vs Fury almost immediately after the Gyspy King stopped Deontay Wilder to become the new WBC king.

Wilder has exercised his rematch clause, but Hearn revealed he has held talks with Arum over a unification fight this year.

‘I had a good chat with Bob Arum last night. Everybody wants to make Fury-Joshua. I mean, like, everybody.

‘You’ve got to understand these people… I mean, I like a pound note but these guys are savages. So they’re sniffing just money everywhere.

‘So the strategy is, let’s get [Kubrat] Pulev wrapped up and signed and if over the next couple of weeks there’s a move – where someone can wait, someone can have a few quid – we would love nothing more than to go into Fury in June or July.’
