Conor Benn's dig over drugs in boxing has emphatically come back to bite him – after his own failed test meant his eagerly-anticipated fight with Chris Eubank Jr was called off.

The hotly-anticipated bout at the O2 Arena was officially postponed on Thursday after it had been revealed Benn had returned a positive test for banned substance clomifene in the build-up.

Benn's test results showed an adverse finding of traces of the drug, which helps with fertility but can also boost testosterone levels.

And fierce comments Benn made about Jarrell Miller in 2019 have now resurfaced, after the American failed multiple drugs tests which called off a heavyweight clash with Anthony Joshua.

Benn was stunned that disgraced Miller blew his chance, but now finds himself in a precarious position himself after the British Boxing Board of Control prohibited his grudge fight with Eubank Jr.

"I just heard it when I got to the gym this morning – I can't believe it," Benn told Sky Sports News in 2019."The biggest fight of your life, the biggest fight of your career and you get tested positive for a banned substance. It baffles me.

"I'm not even at world level and my nutritionist has a go at me for taking vitamin C tablets if they haven't been tested.

"So, the team he's got around him should say: "Listen, check all your substances! You're earning a few good quid here, and why put that to risk?"'

Benn, meanwhile, maintains his own innocence and has vowed to clear his name and reschedule his fight with Eubank Jr.

"I am truly gutted that we were unable to make this fight happen on Saturday and I'm sorry to everyone who has been affected by the postponement," his statement on social media read.

"I am still completely shocked and surprised by this and it has been a tough couple of days.

"My team and I will consider the next options including rescheduling the fight, but my immediate focus is on clearing my name because I am a clean athlete!"
