‘He had his opportunity and passed’: Conor McGregor has lost his chance to fight Justin Gaethje in UFC comeback trail, says American star’s manager
- Conor McGregor will not be fighting Justin Gaethje any time soon, it seems
- The Irishman is looking for his next opponent after winning his comeback fight
- Gaethje’s manager says McGregor had his chance to fight his client but passed
- Jorge Masvidal, Nate Diaz or Khabib Nurmagomedov could be next for him
Justin Gaethje’s manager has claimed there is no truth to reports that Conor McGregor will fight his client next.
McGregor exploded back onto the UFC scene last month with a sensational 40-second knockout win over Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.
Talk has now switched to who he will fight next on the comeback trail with potential fights against Jorge Masvidal, Nate Diaz and Khabib Nurmagomedov all rumoured.

The Irishman chose to fight Donald Cerrone instead of Gaethje (above) in Las Vegas last month
But one that doesn’t look likely to happen anytime soon is a lightweight clash with Gaethje.
American Gaethje beat Cerrone and was then widely expected to be given a title shot or handed a blockbuster fight against McGregor.
But the Irishman chose to fight Cerrone instead and cruised to a comfortable victory in Las Vegas.
UFC chief Dana White insisted McGregor was not far off a title fight, only for Khabib to say he needed to win 10 fights to earn the right to face him.
But any chance of fighting Gaethje also appears to be in ruins after his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, poured cold water on speculation on social media.
McGregor claimed a sensational 40-second knockout win over Cerrone in his comeback fight
He tweeted: ‘This rumor about @Justin_Gaethje fighting vs @TheNotoriousMMA is absolutely false.
‘He had the opportunity to fight him already instead of cowboy but he didn’t.
‘Justin is the number one contender and like Khabib said. Conor needs to win 10 fights.’
Earlier this month White said McGregor is ‘focused on fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov next’.
‘I don’t know [about a third fight with Diaz being next],’ White told BT Sport. ‘He’s focused on Khabib. He wants the Khabib fight.’
McGregor has frequently stated his desire to treat this year as a ‘season’ and keep busy with three or four fights before 2021.
