Connor McGregor is never far away from the headlines and has once again caught the attention of sports fans in a recent post as he announced in a montage video that he will again be returning to the octagon.

McGregor – one of the world’s biggest sports stars – has already retired from fighting on several occasions but will now return as the Irishman prepares to fight for the first time since breaking his tibia against Dustin Poirier last year.

The superstar captioned a video showing some of his best moments in UFC as ‘the greatest and the biggest sports comeback in all of history’.

And while some of McGregor’s die-hard fans may revel in the announcement, others were quick to mock his attempt to raise awareness of his bout.

It is yet to be announced who the 34-year-old will fight next as he attempts to regain his status as one of the world’s current best fighters with Michael Chandler the most likely opponent.

One online user reacting to McGregor’s original tweet mocked the fighter for using ‘seven year old footage’ to hype up his next fight.

The MMA star originally called out welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in the quest of becoming the first-ever three weight world champion, however that is off the cards with Usman fighting Leon Edwards later this month.

Others simply stated that the global star was past his glory years as one tweet read: ‘You’re not beating anyone anymore dude. You’re washed’.

Some UFC supporters suggested that the UFC icon wouldn’t beat anyone in the sport

Others bit back at McGregor for suggesting his next fight would be ‘sports biggest comeback’

McGregor boasts a professional UFC record of six losses in 28 fights but has accrued two of those losses in the last year alone, highlighting his relegation in form as younger athletes burst onto the scene.

The self-titled ‘people’s champion’ was rebuffed in his claim that he was staging history’s biggest sports comeback ever as one person suggested that both Tiger Woods and Tyson Fury had better shouts for their comebacks.
