Conor McGregor publicly ‘agrees’ to fight in 2022 that would send UFC fans wild

Conor McGregor has agreed to face Michael Chandler "at some stage" in the near future following his breathtaking UFC battle with Justin Gaethje on Saturday night.

Chandler played his part in a sensational three-round war with Gaethje at UFC 268, which the latter got the better of thanks to two scores of 29-28 and one of 30-27.

However, both men emerged with credit aplenty for putting on one of the most violent fights in UFC history, battering each other from pillar to post at Madison Square Garden before both were taken to hospital.

Just a few days on from that brutal encounter, Chandler is already setting his sights on a showdown with McGregor.

The American posted a photoshopped picture of the two squaring off on Twitter and simply wrote: "2022".

And McGregor certainly appears up for the challenge, replying: "I’m down at some stage for sure. Great fight the other night Mike, congrats!"

Chandler then said: "Thank you sir. It would be my pleasure. See you soon."

  • Conor McGregor shares new footage of moment he broke his leg in Dustin Poirier loss

McGregor has spent the last four months recovering from a broken leg after suffering the gruesome injury in his rematch defeat against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

The Irishman has since returned to training and is therefore in line to make a return to the Octagon in 2022, which could potentially come against Chandler.

He told Adam Glyn back in September: “I feel like I could kick right now.

“I honestly feel like I could kick right now.

“But I've just got to listen to the doctors and listen to the people that guided me, that's what I've done so far.

“I've committed myself to the work. I'm back on the feet. It feels so good to be back on the feet.”

McGregor needs to put another winning run together after losing three of his last four contests.
