Floyd Mayweather believes ‘scared’ Jake Paul was beaten by Tyron Woodley

Tyron Woodley has claimed Floyd Mayweather Jr called him to tell him he should have been declared the winner in his boxing bout against Jake Paul.

YouTuber Paul was declared the winner on points by split decision after the fight in Ohio on Sunday, taking his professional record to 4-0 after a string of bouts against MMA fighters, a basketball player and a fellow internet star.

That decision was controversial among some fans and, apparently, one of the greatest pound-for-pound boxers of all time.

Speaking to MMA journalist Ariel Helwan, Woodley described what Mayweather had told him in a phone call.

He said: "Floyd don’t like when I talk about a lot of technique and stuff that we work on. He’s really secretive with that.

"But it was some things that I did really well that he said I should have done more of. He did say just a little bit more output. He did feel like I won the fight.

"He said, ‘You know, I told you that he (Jake Paul) was going to be kind of scared of you. You’ve been there before’. He said, ‘He ain’t been hit with no sh** yet. We’re gonna see how he responds’."

Do you think Woodley should have been given the win against Paul? Let us know in the comments section.

"He said, ‘You’ve been hit with four-ounce gloves, and you can take it. Let’s see how he deals with that’."

Woodley's lack of aggression in the fight was criticised, with the American appearing to back off when he was dominant over Paul on several occasions.

Some fans even claimed the bout was "rigged" when Woodley had Paul on the ropes after a huge hit, but hesitated and allowed the YouTuber to regain his composure before going on the be declared the winner.

Woodley continued: "So, kind of what [Mayweather] said to a T kind of played out, you know. Jake played it off, but he was hurt. He was running. He was clinching.

"I didn’t clinch him one time. I don’t know that my back was against the rope one time. There were very few times I should have been pressing forward. So, every single thing he said I was gonna do, that was going to happen, he did."

Both Paul and Woodley are reported to have earned $2m from the fight, before shares of any pay-per-view sales are taken into account.

YouTuber Paul bragged after the fight he is now "10% closer to becoming a billionaire" because of the bout.
