A mass brawl involving 1,200 boxers has taken place in Russia as a tribute to Ivan the Terrible.
Two teams of 600 faced off in a strange event called Walk the Field held just outside Moscow over the weekend. It marked 450 years since the Battle of Molodi, when undermanned Russian forces defended the city during the first Tsar Ivan's reign.
After they were designated either yellow or black t-shirts, the fighters lined up facing each other before they began to charge while chanting. Headgear appeared to be optional with all 1,200 given a pair of gloves.

Then once they'd ran out of ground the scrap was on. Quite what the rules were is anyone's guess, with some adopting MMA moves which would be highly illegal inside a boxing ring.
Strength in numbers looked to be a popular tactic but a few found themselves isolated and ganged up on by the opposition. Fortunately for them, the brawl was brought to an end after a minute and a round of applause broke out instead.

Although it may have been short and sweet, it's believed the 600v600 clash set a new world record for the most people to ever take part in a wall fight.
Ivan the Terrible, who ruled Russia from 1547 to 1584, earned his nickname thanks to his ruthless actions. He divided Moscow in two, with one province for the rich and the other for the poor.
Victory at the Battle of Molodi, where roughly 25,000 Russians held off against 40,000 Crimean Khanate who were seeking an opportunistic invasion, was regarded as one of his biggest accomplishments.
Later in his reign he executed thousands and also killed the heir to the throne, his eldest son Ivan Ivanovich. Thankfully, no one was harmed in the 450th anniversary celebration.
