Former world champion Joseph Parker eager to face Oleksandr Usyk for the WBO heavyweight belt if Anthony Joshua vacates title to fight Tyson Fury
- Joseph Parker’s manager says he would ‘100 percent’ fight Oleksandr Usyk
- Anthony Joshua could vacate the WBO title in order to fight Tyson Fury
- Parker is the third ranked contender, so may have to wait for his shot at the title
There is a chance that Anthony Joshua will vacate his WBO heavyweight title in order to fight Tyson Fury, and Joseph Parker would jump at the chance to take on current mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk for the belt if that happens.
Parker’s manager, David Higgins, said: ‘One hundred percent we’d take the fight,’ according to Bad Left Hook.
‘Joseph believes Usyk to be a class act. He is really slick, but it’s just whether he has the power at heavyweight. He’s certainly got the skills. There’s a lot of respect there.’
Joseph Parker would ‘100 percent take the fight’ against Oleksandr Usyk for the WBO title
Usyk is mandatory challenger to Anthony Joshua’s belt, who may vacate the belt next year
The Ukrainian is mandatory challenger to Joshua’s WBO belt, and Joshua also faces mandatory challenger to the IBF belt Kubrat Pulev next month, so the champion may give up WBO title in order to face Fury next year instead of Usyk.
Usyk recently survived a scare against veteran Derek Chisora, with onlookers believing he may not have the power to take on the likes of Joshua and Fury.
Joshua has a decision to make, but won’t have seen much from that bout to convince him to vacate his title instead of facing Usyk and holding onto the title.

Parker is currently scheduled to face Junior Fa in Auckland on December 12
However, Usyk seemed confident following his win, firing off the warning message: ‘Anthony, how are you? I’m coming for you,’ after the points victory.
Parker, a former WBO champion himself, is currently the third ranked contender for the WBO title in the heavyweight division behind Usyk and Daniel Dubois, so may have to wait for his chance.
Parker is currently scheduled to go up against fellow New Zealander Junior Fa on December 12.
Joshua’s fight with Pulev on the same day may be moved abroad due to the most recent coronavirus restrictions, however Tyson Fury’s bout against Agit Kabayel will be going ahead in London with or without fans on December 5.
