Khabib mocks Conor McGregor after knockout defeat to Dustin Poirier

Khabib Nurmagomedov couldn’t resist a dig at Conor McGregor after Dustin Poirier inflicted a shock defeat on the Irishman at UFC 257.

The Irishman suffered the first knockout of his career as Poirier upset the odds to earn a shot at the lightweight title.

Khabib still holds the title despite his retirement and the Russian was watching on with interest to see if he could be enticed back into the octagon by the winner of the fight in Abu Dhabi.

Many would have loved to see a repeat of the 2018 clash between McGregor and Khabib but the Russian was in no mood for games after the Irishman’s defeat and accused the 32-year-old of ‘sparring with little kids’.

McGregor’s hopes of luring the Russian back are in tatters after his defeat and Khabib took a dig at the Irishman after his defeat, accusing the 32-year-old of preparing for his clash by ‘sparring with little kids’.

The Irishman suggested after the defeat that his training was not adequate and that he felt the American was better prepared.

‘You know, it’s hard to overcome inactivity over long periods of time,’ said McGregor, who hadn’t fought since beating Donald Cerrone last January.

‘I just wasn’t as comfortable as I needed to be, but Dustin is some fighter. If you put in the time, you’re going to get cozy in here.

‘I have to dust it off and come back, and that’s what I will do. … I’ll take my licks, but I’m gutted.’
