Former world boxing champion James DeGale appears to have turned boxing coach as he is now training beloved presenter Laura Woods.
DeGale won two super-middleweight world titles between 2009 and 2019, recording 25 victories, 15 knockouts, and only three losses. However, the 36-year-old is reportedly passing down his knowledge to legendary football and boxing reporter Woods.
Her desire to get into the ring emerged after she was snapped up alongside Maya Jama by Eddie Hearn to present Dazn’s boxing coverage last year. But while she admits that there is little hope of her ever looking for a potential bout, she is still having lessons with DeGale.

“I’m a casual boxing fan, but I am not an expert,” Woods said to the Fozcast. “I like knowledge in what I do and I was like ‘s*** this will be a lot of work’, so when I accepted it [Hearn’s offer] I immersed myself in it.
“I started working with Tony Bellew and I was watching with him and I said ‘Tony, I need to know more about this, I want to be able to score it myself’ and sometimes professional boxers can’t score it properly.
“I felt like the only way I could do that was if I learn it. I said, ‘you know what, do you know anybody who could help me, that can train me?’

“And he was like ‘yea my mate chunky, here you go’ then he texted him and shared his number with me. When I opened it up I realised, Chunky is James DeGale. So James DeGale is my boxing coach."
Woods has become accustomed to verbally knocking out rogue callers on TalkSPORT, particularly when they take aim at her beloved Arsenal. However, the only fisticuffs she will be getting into will be verbal ones, as she admitted her boxing skills leave a lot to be desired.
“Once a week we go and train together and it’s amazing,” Woods added. “He’s so good. If I do something wrong I feel so guilty because he is like, ‘I just want you to be good’, then I’m like, ‘I know but I am so s***.”
