Tommy Fury promises he will "end Jake Paul’s career" as fight edges closer

Tommy Fury has vowed to finish Jake Paul in their December fight and send him packing from boxing.

The Love Island star and his YouTube rival will put their unbeaten records on the line later this year as contract negotiations appear to have rekindled between the pair.

Mirror Fighting understands that the bout is close to being made official, with a venue to be confirmed shortly from a shortlist of cities across the United States.

There had been issues around Fury's purse for the fight after he turned down a £1million offer, but it seems that negotiations have turned a corner and sources say that the card is full steam ahead for a mid-December date.

And Fury has promised that he will rid the sport of Jake Paul's brand of promotion and mischief-making when they finally step into the ring.

“I will end his boxing career," Fury told TMZ Sports of the fight. "There is no more Jake Paul after we fight, that’s it.

“Jake Paul gets me nowhere in boxing terms – he’s not a boxer, so beating him doesn’t get me a world title shot, it doesn’t get me any respect from any of the other fighters.

“Everyone knows what other fighters think of him, so it doesn’t get me anywhere – it’s a good payday, an easy fight, but then I’m going back into the proper boxing world.

“I’m going to win some titles, go down in history, and do what I’ve been doing my whole life.”

Fury appeared to agree to terms that Paul outlined in a new offer last week where the YouTube star would bet a further $500,000 directly from his purse.

But if Fury were to lose the bout, he would have to change his name to 'Tommy Fumbles' legally for a year.

“That’s funny business, it’s not going to happen," Fury said when asked about the terms of the deal.

"This is an easy fight for me, it’s just ridiculous.

“I’ve been fighting heavyweight boxing my whole life, I’ve been in this job since I was seven. If he was any good at it he would have done it before now.

“He’s not a boxer and you’re going to see that when we fight.”

Fury's dad John and brother Tyson, the world heavyweight champion, have joked that he will have to change his name if he loses to Paul.

"If Tommy can’t splatter Jake Paul, I’ll retire him from boxing myself," Tyson said of the bout.

"If he can’t beat Jake Paul, forget about boxing.

"Because he’s got ambitions of being a world champion, never mind beating some YouTube guy.

"But Tommy – his name’s Fury. If he can’t beat Jake Paul, I’ll have to change his name."

And his father concurred, adding during an interview with TalkSPORT : "Tyson said if Jake Paul beats him, he’s got to change his name because of some stupid stuff – which he should do!

"If he can’t beat Jake Paul I’ll smash him to bits with a bamboo stick myself."
