UFC star Paulo Costa has admitted to being drunk during his world title fight against Israel Adesanya after he drank a whole bottle of wine.

Costa is currently ranked the no. 2 middleweight in the world, and has lost just once in 14 professional MMA fights, including several big bouts in recent years.

However, the Brazilian did suffer his maiden defeat during UFC 253 back in September last year when he challenged Adesanya for his world title.

Things didn’t go to plan for Costa though, as he suffered a second round TKO in the headline fight on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

However, the 29-year-old has made the revelation that he was struggling with a hangover after drinking a whole bottle of wine to help him sleep.

“I was a little drunk when I fought. Maybe I had a little hangover,” he said in a video on his own Youtube channel.

“I couldn't sleep because of the leg cramps. I remember that the fight was at 9 in the morning and we had to get up at 5 in the morning to prepare, stretch, bandage our hands.

“The UFC told us to get up to at 5 in the morning to go to the arena where we fought. I did not fall asleep until 2:30am.

“It was my fault and I don't blame anyone else for it. It was something I chose myself, but I had to sleep because I hadn't done it in the last 24 hours.
