UFC star slammed by 499lbs sumo as she laughs off claim size doesnt matter

UFC star Crystal Vanessa Demopoulos was slammed by a sumo wrestler in a huge mis-match clash.

The 33-year-old MMA fighter is better known for her cunning use of submission which has made up four of her eight professional victories. But she traded the octagon for a dohyo (raised sumo ring) this week as she learned a valuable lesson.

In a clip posted to her Instagram page, ‘Lil Monster’ took on sumo champion Ramy Elgazar in a spot of wrestling. But she quickly found out the hard way that her MMA skills would be no match for the might of Elgazar, who weighs a staggering 499lbs (226kg).

The footage showed Demopoulos facing off with the Egyptian, who smiled and urged her to come at him as they got underway. She offered a few feints before looking to takedown the giant with a clinch. Big mistake.

Elgazar was not having it at all, easily manhandling the fighter in the air before slamming her to the side with ease. And he even gave a knowing shrug as his American opponent was left laughing on the floor.

She later saw the funny side again as she captioned the post: “SUMOOO. ‘Size doesn’t matter’ famous last words. I was no match for @ramyelgazar1. WHAT AN ADVENTURE!!”

Fans and fellow fighters took to the comments section to voice their amusement and praise Demopoulos for even attempting the takedown, with one user writing: "The amount of respect you get for even attempting to go at a sumo is unspoken."

Despite the loss, the UFC ace herself is no slouch, having won two of her three UFC fights in the strawweight division. She boasts an overall record of 8-4, with her latest clash ending in a split decision victory over Jinh Yu Frey.
