Dustin Johnson has hinted his back injury earlier this year came after a bedroom incident with his wife Paulina Gretzky.

Speaking ahead of this week’s US PGA Championship, LIV golfer Johnson was asked how he hurt his back.

‘I just pulled a muscle,’ he said, shifting suspiciously on the spot as he answered. ‘Lower back.’

The reporter followed up by asking: ‘Swinging a club? Lifting up a club’ and a big smile appeared on Johnson’s face.

‘No,’ he said, awkwardly tilting his head from one side to another. ‘Lifting up a kid… a bigger kid’ as the press room broke out into laughter.

‘I’m done!’ the reporter said back to him.

The four time major winner and the model got engaged back in 2013 after meeting in 2009

Back in April of 2022, the couple got married at a luxury resort in Tennessee

The pair have two sons: Tatum, born in 2015, and River, born in 2017

Johnson and Gretzky married last April and had been engaged since 2013. Pauline is the daughter of the legendary hockey player Wayne Gretzky, widely considered as the finest player to have ever graced the ice.

They first met back in 2009, but didn’t start dating until early in 2013 – getting engaged that August and marrying at the Blackberry Farm resort in Tennessee in April of 2022.

The couple has two sons: older child Tatum, born in 2015, and younger boy River born in 2017.

At the time, it was reported Johnson had hurt his back in a practice round and he had to withdraw from a tournament in Jeddah in February.

Johnson has dealt with back problems before that have kept him out of major championships. A back injury at home in 2012 forced him to miss the first two months of the season, including The Masters.

In 2017, Johnson missed The Masters again after falling down the stairs at a home he was renting in Augusta – forcing him to withdraw from the tournament.

The 2016 US Open winner and 2020 Masters champion is still looking for his first PGA Championship crown – which would mark the first one for a LIV Golf player.

The South Carolina native was announced to join the Saudi-backed tour on May 31 as part of the first ever event in the series’ history.

Johnson won his first LIV event back in September of 2022 at a course outside of Boston

He won his first LIV Golf event back in September of 2022 at the LIV event in Bolton, Massachusetts – 45 minutes east of Boston.

Johnson heads into this week’s tournament as one of the favorites after winning his second ever LIV event last week in Tulsa.

He’s currently listed with 20-1 odds to take the Wannamaker Trophy at Oak Hill Country Club – tied with Jason Day and Justin Thomas. Fellow LIV golfer Brooks Koepka leads the rebels in the field at 18-1.

These two are leading away for the breakaway tour in the race to be the first from LIV to win a major championship. Koepka and Phil Mickelson came close at Augusta, finishing second in the field and four shots behind winner Jon Rahm.
