Thursday Night Football DraftKings Picks: NFL DFS lineup advice for Week 8 Packers-Cardinals Showdown tournaments

The Packers and Cardinals have had some fun moments over the years, and there’s a chance for some more fireworks to kick off Week 8 on Thursday Night Football. If the Packers are going to find a way to pull off the road upset, they’ll have to do so without their top two receivers, Davante Adams and Allen Lazard, who are both on the COVID list. Their absences create  DFS values elsewhere on the roster, and we’re taking advantage with our DraftKings Showdown lineup picks.

Here’s a reminder of the key settings for DraftKings single game contests: It’s full-point PPR, and there are three-point bonuses for 300 passing yards, 100 rushing yards, and 100 receiving yards. The Captain pick costs 1.5 times a player’s original price, but he also gets his point total multiplied by 1.5.

DraftKings Showdown Picks: Packers vs. Cardinals

$50,000 budget, need at least one player from each team.

Captain (1.5x value, 1.5x points): QB Kyler Murray, Cardinals ($18,000)

The Packers haven’t faced an offense like the Cardinals, nor have they faced an individual player as dynamic as Murray, who ranks third among quarterbacks in DraftKings scoring through seven games. His 13.7 DK points in Week 5 certainly went down as a dud, but generally speaking, DFS players can invest in Murray knowing that a score in the low-20s is the floor.

FLEX: QB Aaron Rodgers, Packers ($11,400)

Rodgers will be without two of his favorite targets, Davante Adams (COVID list) and Allen Lazard (COVID list), but it won’t be the first time he’s had to perform shorthanded. He still averaged 305 passing yards and 3.5 touchdowns in 2020 when Adams missed a pair of games. In four contests without Adams in 2019, those per-game averages were 313.8 passing yards and 2.5 touchdowns. Rodgers will have to spread the love around a bit more than usual, but he’s certainly capable of putting up big numbers even without his top aerial weapons.

WEEK 8 DFS LINEUPS: FanDuel | DraftKings | Yahoo

FLEX: RB Aaron Jones, Packers ($9,000)

Jones offers immense upside — he’s eclipsed 40 DraftKings points on a pair of occasions since 2020 — and a reasonable salary. Jones leads the team in touches (115) and is second in scrimmage yards (590) — figures that will increase significantly due to the absence of Adams and Lazard. In the six games Adams has missed since 2019, Jones averaged a tick over 20 opportunities (targets plus carries). He’ll be busy again on Thursday night.

FLEX: Zach Ertz, Cardinals ($6,200)

Ertz made a nice first impression on his new teammates, posting a 3-66-1 line in his Cardinals debut. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury likes to spread the ball around, and that has included 26 targets to tight ends. It’s possible Ertz commands more volume, but he should have the opportunity to make his mark in this game even if the tight end target share remains steady.

WEEK 8 STANDARD RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker

FLEX: WR Randall Cobb, Packers ($3,600)

Rodgers asked specifically for Cobb over the offseason, and now he’ll need to use him. Cobb’s 18 targets are good for fifth on the Packers, but Adams and Lazard account for 44.1 percent of the team’s target share, so Cobb will likely find himself on the receiving end of a few more passes this week. He scored 23.9 DK points in Week 4, so he can still make plays when called upon.

WEEK 8 PPR RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker

FLEX: RB AJ Dillon, Packers ($1,400)

Dillon is coming off an atrocious fantasy performance (0.8 DK points), so he’s not going to be a popular choice in this spot, but it’s reasonable to expect the Packers to lean a bit more heavily on their backfield, both as runners and receivers. Dillon trails only Jones in touches, and his 321 scrimmage yards trail just Jones and Adams. He’s handled double-digit touches three times and scored double-digit DK points in two of those instances.
