Dr Megan Rossi is a constipation expert helping Britons to cope with the condition, which leaves one unable to pass stools. Known as The Gut Health Doctor, she shares educational tools and recipes.

Megan discussed what might be a good breakfast for those struggling with constipation.

She told Express.co.uk: “I would say something like full-fat yoghurt. That can be really laxative.”

Megan did advise, though, that constipation can be unique to each person and different approaches may not suit everyone.

“Caffeine can really help with constipation, too.

“Again, there’s an individualised approach and for some people actually caffeine just increases those stress hormones and makes them more anxious and therefore less likely to go.

The expert also detailed a breakfast drink that could bloating. 

Dr Megan said fruit juice could be causing bloating in the morning, due to the high fructose content.

If having fruit in the morning, it is much better to have whole fruit to tackle the problem of bloating.

Megan is an expert when it comes to constipation, which affects many, many people worldwide.

She said: “So many people come to me with bloating and it can really impact their quality of life.

“Constipation costs the NHS over £200 million a year each and every year.

“Two hundred people each day are admitted to hospital for constipation.”

She went on: “Everyone’s constipation is slightly different in terms of the triggers.”

Megan’s book includes a clever diagram to help people look at the potential causes of their constipation and how they might improve it.

“I don’t want to sound complicated, that’s why I focus diagrams, to help as many people as possible to understand, going through.

“There are about 10 strategies with really good clinical evidence.”

What foods help with bloating?

If you are constipated, make sure you are drinking enough water to soften your stools.

In addition, add fibre to your diet, which will help with movement.
