Antonio Conte was reportedly the man Tottenham Hotspur wanted to become their next manager – but talks have broken down it seems. Spurs have been searching for a new boss since parting ways with Jose Mourinho back in April and Conte had held talks over replacing him, having recently walked away from Inter Milan.

Despite guiding Inter to their first Serie A title in 11 years, Conte was informed that the club would have to sell players this summer because of their mounting financial woes.

As a result, Conte left the San Siro after two years in charge and a return to the Premier League with Spurs was linked.

But after The Times reported that Conte has some concerns about taking the job, it looks as though both parties have distanced themselves from an agreement.

Even without the former Inter boss at the helm, Spurs could look to raid Conte’s former club this summer due to their financial problems.

With that in mind, Express Sport has taken a look at three players from Spurs could bring from Milan to north London…

Milan Skriniar

The Slovakia international has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League and Spurs reportedly ‘had a strong interest’ in Skriniar last summer, according to football.london.

At the time, Spurs were unwilling to meet Inter’s asking price but, given the Serie A side’s current financial problems and the fact that Skriniar has just two years left on his deal, Tottenham may have a better chance of signing him this summer.

Skriniar was a key member of Conte’s Inter side, starting 32 of their 38 league games last season.

Even without Conte to take the Spurs job, the club could still attempt to persuade Skriniar to join him.

Ivan Perisic

The winger was linked with a move to Spurs back in January and, with his contract due to expire in 2022, Perisic could be on the move this summer.

Gareth Bale will return to Real Madrid next season following the end of his loan spell and the likes of Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn have also been linked with exits.

As a result, Spurs may be in the market for a new winger this summer and Perisic could fit the bill.

Perisic became an important member of Conte’s team towards the end of last season and he could be one to come to north London even if his old manager doesn’t.

Christian Eriksen

A former Spurs star for the best part of a decade, Eriksen made the move to Inter in January 2020.

Eriksen initially struggled for game time under Conte and was linked with a move back to the Premier League, but he began to thrive during the second half of the recent campaign.

The Danish international recently told Corriere dello Sport that Conte’s departure was a “shock” and that the pair were “good friends”.

Even without him, though, Eriksen might be persuaded into an emotional return to Spurs.
