Adrien Rabiot ‘thinks he’s sure to start in naff Man Utd’ and can make World Cup

Manchester United target Adrien Rabiot is reportedly confident that he can carve himself a place in Erik ten Hag’s struggling side.

The Red Devils’ Premier League season began with a humbling 2-1 home defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion. Despite promising signs in pre-season, United’s appear to be struggling with the same issues that blighted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick's time at the club.

Ten Hag is still looking to strengthen his new side, reportedly agreeing a £15million deal in principle for Rabiot. And the Frenchman is believed to be keen on a move as he feels confident that he can breeze right into the starting eleven.

With the 2022 World Cup on the horizon, reports from L’Equipe, understand Rabiot views a move to United as a way of forcing himself back into the French team. He also reportedly believes a place in United's starting eleven is “almost guaranteed” if he does decide to move to the red side of Manchester.

Rabiot was excluded from the Les Bleus’ squad in the previous World Cup squad after Les Bleus manager Didier Deschamps tried to place him on the reserve list. However, Rabiot almost alienated himself from all future French teams by refusing to be on the reserve list and subsequently withdrawing from it.

Four years later, all appears to be made up between him and Deschamps and Rabiot appears to see an opportunity to be part of France’s World Cup defence. Some good performances between now and the start of the Qatar tournament could very well secure a place in that team.

While Ten Hag has pushed to sign Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong all summer, he had to contend himself with midfield duo Fred and Scott McTominay in his first league match. Unfortunately, the pair were ran ragged by Brighton’s relentless and aggressive pressing.

Rabiot would represent a different option for Ten Hag if his move from Juventus was able to be completed. Negotiations are still ongoing between United and Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique Rabiot.

However, she is driving a hard bargain and has even reportedly demanded to speak only to United director John Murtough. United travel to Brentford in their next Premier League match, before a daunting home match against Liverpool the following game-week.
