Manchester United could be approaching an uncomfortable decision over the future of Jadon Sancho after Alejandro Garnacho provided a reminder of his quality and potential in the 2-0 victory over Wolves. The Argentine was back amongst the goals as he added a brilliant second for the Red Devils in their priceless triumph over Julen Lopetegui’s side as United took another crucial step towards a top-four finish.
Much has been made of the absences of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in recent weeks but Erik ten Hag’s stale line-ups have also been missing Garnacho’s penetrative runs, speed and efficiency in the final third.
Although he is still very much a squad player at this point in his development, United have looked stagnant in attack after failing to score in back-to-back 1-0 defeats to Brighton and West Ham, respectively.
Prior to his injury, sustained in the 0-0 draw with Southampton in mid-March, Garnacho had made huge strides in his development and looked as if he could be set for a starring role during the final months of the season.
His direct dribbling style and hunger had translated into several notable contributions in the final third and with United’s other forwards enduring a difficult patch of form – Garnacho looked like a lethal weapon.

During his absence, Sancho failed to grab the bull by the horns and for the first time in his United career, it could be argued that his future is up for debate.
It’s an almost unthinkable situation given how long United battled to land the England international from Borussia Dortmund over the course of several transfer windows.
But the brutal truth is that Sancho has simply not been up to scratch in his second full season at United when he was supposed to elevate his game to the next level.
Couple that with Garnacho’s frightening potential and there is a genuine argument that United could look to move their £73million 2021 summer signing on should they receive a suitable offer.

Sancho does not seem to fit the bill for Ten Hag and even with a run of games, he has lacked confidence and consistency.
While his enchanting performances for Dortmund suggest he deserves the time to put things right, United cannot afford that time when they’re attempting to close the gap on Manchester City and Arsenal.
They ultimately need forwards that can deliver regular goals and assists and performances that will help drive the Red Devils to their former heights.
United have made undeniable progress under Ten Hag this season but even still, top-four could still slip from beneath their reach in the final games of the season.
The wide areas could be identified as an area where Ten Hag wants to strengthen and with Sancho hardly setting the world alight, it already feels like a decisive chapter in his Old Trafford career.
So far, there has been no word that he could depart nor of any interest from further afield but should that be the case, it could see United faced with an intriguing decision.
Raising cash through player sales will be important this summer and Sancho still represents an asset of significant value.
With Garnacho chomping at the bit, Antony still a preferred figure under Ten Hag and Marcus Rashford at the top of his game despite a recent blip – Sancho faces an uphill battle to nail down a place in United’s side.
