Potential Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has made a transfer ‘guarantee’ demand as he enters into talks with club chiefs Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici. Spurs sacked Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday morning after just four months in charge, with the Portuguese manager struggling to get the best out of his side.

Nuno was appointed in the summer after a long search for a replacement for Jose Mourinho, with Conte one of the managers they approached.

But it now appears that the London club have realised they made a mistake by choosing Nuno in the summer.

He was sacked following a dreadful 3-0 defeat to Manchester United, with Spurs failing to have a shot on target.

Conte was quickly named as the favourite to replace him, as Levy and Paratici desperately search for a way to save Tottenham’s season.

Spurs are understood to already be in advanced talks with the Italian, who won Serie A with Inter Milan before leaving in the summer.

The former Chelsea boss has developed a reputation for making tough demands of his club bosses, particularly in the transfer market.

And things are set to be no different at Spurs, despite the club having been active in the summer window, signing five players.

But according to Sport Mediaset (via TuttoMercatoWeb), Conte wants a ‘guarantee’ of the number of signings Spurs will look to make in the January window.

The Italian news website reports that Conte wants at least three or four new signings to be made in the winter.

It is stated that Conte is thought to be just ‘one step away’ from putting pen to paper on a contract with Tottenham.

And the Spurs players have already been reportedly told to expect the Italian to take their training session tomorrow.

The final details of his agreement with the Spurs hierarchy are currently being worked out, with Conte thought to be meeting Levy and Paratici.

Paratici and Conte formed a successful partnership at Juventus, helping the Italian giants to win three successive Serie A titles.

They will hope to replicate that relationship at Spurs, though the club will first have to meet Conte’s demands.

He is thought to be unlikely to take the job unless that key demand over transfers is met, with the Tottenham squad in clear need of recruits.

They currently sit ninth in the Premier League, having won five and lost five of their first 10 games in the division.

That leaves them only five points off the Champions League qualification places, with Conte having plenty of time to turn their campaign around.
