Antony goes on strike at Ajax and is refusing to play to force Man Utd transfer

Manchester United transfer target Antony has gone on strike to try and force Ajax into selling him, according to reports.

The Brazilian has been at the top of Erik ten Hag’s transfer wish-list since the start of the transfer window. But while Antony evidently wants to follow his former manager to Old Trafford, Ajax are proving to be a formidable stumbling block in negotiations.

The Amsterdam giants reportedly turned their nose up at United’s gigantic £76.3million offer for the 22-year-old winger. And the former Sao Paulo ace is now taking extreme measures to manoeuvre a departure from the Eredivisie champions.

Reports from the Mirror understand Antony is at a stage where he is refusing to play matches in order to leverage a move out of the club. Having already been left out of the squad for Ajax’s recent clash against Sparta Rotterdam, he is not expected to be in Alfred Schreuder’s squad for their next match against FC Utrecht.

Ajax are believed to be holding out for around £84.8m, which would make him United’s second highest transfer in their history. Club bosses are believed to have told Antony and his representatives that he will be staying put unless United meet their demands.

Moreover, Schreuder has also purportedly said he does not want to lose any more players, having already seen Lisandro Martinez join United for £55m, and Sebastian Haller, Ryan Gravenberch, and Nicolas Tagliafico join Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Lyon respectively

In a sensational interview, Antony firmly reaffirmed his desire to depart Ajax and expressed his immense frustration that his wish has not been granted. "Since February of this year my agents came to Amsterdam to inform Ajax of my desire to leave the club to face a new challenge and that some of interested clubs would arrive and with them is entirely a great offer,” he said in a shocking interview with Fabrizio Romano.

Antony purportedly went on to add, "I made it clear once again I want to leave the club. Today in a meeting with the club's board of directors I expressed my old interest in leaving the club, only this time with a considerable offer on the table.

“Others had already arrived, Ajax always refused and hinders my exit with the argument that it only has five days to replace.”
