Manchester United’s pursuit of Ajax winger Antony looks to be a deal that could go right to the wire ahead of next week’s all-important transfer deadline. The Red Devils have been chasing Antony’s signature for some time but are yet to rubber-stamp the proposed move in spite of their best efforts over the course of this summer to date.
Antony excelled under the guidance of Erik ten Hag at Ajax last season and has since been earmarked as a top target by the United boss, who has experienced a turbulent start to life at Old Trafford thus far. However, it remains to be seen whether Ajax will be prepared to sell their prized asset in the remaining days of the summer window, with the Dutch giants having already lost Lisandro Martinez, Sebastian Haller and Ryan Gravenberch in the months since the end of the previous campaign.
United have been on the lookout for attacking reinforcements since the end of last season but have failed to bring in any new wide forwards as of yet. There is still plenty of time to thrash out a move for Antony, though, but it seems likely that United will be forced into paying over the odds in order to secure his services before the summer window slams shut.
Express Sport takes a look at the current situation with regards to United’s interest in Antony, who remains tied down to Ajax until the summer of 2025 as things stand.

United’s blockbuster offer
Ajax are imminently expecting United to submit a huge bid for Antony as they look to ramp up their pursuit of the Brazilian wide man over the coming days, according to De Telegraaf. It is said that the Red Devils are prepared to offer a fee in the region of £76million, while Antony’s representatives are already said to be house-hunting in the Manchester area in anticipation of his arrival.
The player is said to have reached an agreement on personal terms with United earlier this month, with only negotiations at club level holding up the deal as things stand. Antony is believed to be keen on reuniting with Ten Hag in England after missing a number of training sessions at Ajax last week and there is believed to be optimism that his push to force through a move will help seal the deal in the not-too-distant future.
Ajax’s hefty sell-on clause
Antony’s proposed move to United is also reportedly hinging on the sell-on percentage that would be owed by Ajax to Sao Paulo in the event of the 22-year-old’s departure. The Brazilian club are set to receive around 20 per cent of any transfer fee, which has led to Ajax demanding an eye-watering sum from United in exchange for Antony’s signature.
A bid in the region of £67m has already been turned down by Ajax, but the possibility of United’s newest offer finally being accepted is still hanging in the balance. Antony’s current employers would supposedly like the Red Devils to up their payment to around £84m, with their lofty demands partly due to their contractual obligation to line the pockets of Sao Paulo if he is sold before next week’s deadline.

Antony’s new message
It seems as though Antony is in a hurry to complete his move to United as quickly as possible, with De Telegraaf claiming that the winger has told Ajax that he would like proceedings to be wrapped up within the next 48 hours. The saga has dragged on for the vast majority of the summer window and the player is now believed to be growing impatient with Ajax’s reluctance to let him move on.
He will be desperately hoping that United’s newest bid is accepted by the Dutch heavyweights in order to avoid a potential deadline-day scramble to push the deal over the line. Antony’s burning desire to join the Red Devils seems to be abundantly clear, but it will be up to those in power at Old Trafford to ensure that his dreams become reality by finding a compromise with Ajax over the coming hours and days.
