Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is worried that talk over summer transfers will be a “distraction” for his club’s final three games of the season. Speculation over a move for Declan Rice has ramped up in recent days but Arteta wants to avoid any of those rumours.
At his press conference on Friday, Arteta was asked: “The transfer market is going to be talked I’m sure certainly all summer long. There have been a lot of figures branded for certain players, figures of north of £100m for players.
“As a club, would the club be willing to break their transfer record if the right player became available in the summer?”
The Spaniard insisted focus must be on the final three matches of the season. He claims any transfer talk has the potential to get in the way of that.
Arteta said: “I think the conversation now has to be Brighton and the games that we have. We are playing to win the title, we want to be fully focused on that and all of those things are a distraction and we don’t want to be nowhere near that.”
