Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn believes Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma would “find himself on the bench” if he joined one of the so-called ‘Big-Six’. Bissouma has enjoyed a very impressive start to the season with the Seagulls, who currently sit in fourth position having won four of their opening five matches.
Graham Potter’s side were tipped for a relegation scrap at the start of the season, but they continued to defy expectations with an impressive 2-1 victory against Leicester City.
And the Mali international has been a crucial cog to Potter’s machine; driving the Seagulls on from the midfield, providing vital interceptions, but also creating chances.
His performances in the middle of the park this season and last year has also seen him linked with some of the so-called big six.

It also appears the 25-year-old is very proud of his performances, as can be extrapolated when he was asked who he thinks is the best midfielder in the Premier League.
“I don’t want to be arrogant, but it’s me because in my head I am working to be the best,” he said to Football Focus.
“So I cannot say another name, I know in the Premier League there are so many good midfielders, but for me, it’s me because that gives me the confidence and the energy to work hard to show people I am here and I am Bissouma.”
However, Winterburn does not feel the same way about the defender, with the former-left-back believing the Seagulls midfielder would struggle to get into any of the top sides.
“I’ve seen Yves Bissouma play quite a few times. He is a good player, but I don’t think I’ve ever been confident enough to come out and make that bold of a statement about a player,” Winterburn said to Paddy Power.
“Is Bissouma even big or good enough for a top four team? Looking at the current top four, he’d find himself on the bench a fair amount.
“One thing that is in his favour though is he has no shortage in self-confidence.”
Metro reporter Aden-Jay Wood reported the impressive midfielder was linked with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal in the summer.
However, Winterburn does not believe the Gunners would be interested in signing Bissouma, due to the personnel they brought in during the summer.
“Bissouma probably won’t go to Arsenal, given who they have signed, unless the club wants to change things up further,” said Winterburn.
“I’ve been impressed with Albert Sambi Lokonga. Lokonga will be superb given what we’ve seen so far. Arsenal has Thomas Partey too.
“Do they need another player there? Potentially, but then he’d be fighting for the position.”
Winterburn spent thirteen years with the North Londoners, winning three Premier League titles and two FA Cups during his time at Highbury.
