Arsenal are set to keep William Saliba in their ranks until the January transfer window at least, despite reports linking the defender with a loan move to Brentford.
Saliba, 19, completed a £27million move to the Gunners in 2019 before being sent back on loan to St-Etienne for the duration of last season.
Yet after suffering a number of injuries before the French football season was curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was believed he would be loaned out again by Mikel Arteta and co this term.
St-Etienne were keen to secure another loan deal for the centre-back, only for the move to fall through when paperwork was not completed before international transfer deadline passed on October 5.
Championship outfit Brentford are also eyeing up a potential deal, with the additional domestic window running until this Friday.
However, The Athletic claim Saliba will instead be remaining at Arsenal until January at least.
He is expected to be named in Arteta’s 25-man Premier League, which is due to be announced on October 20.
The Frenchman was left out of Arsenal’s Europa League squad last week along with experienced team-mates Mesut Ozil and Sokratis, seemingly indicating he would be loaned out again before the October 16 domestic deadline.
And Arteta suggested earlier this month that he still requires a transitional year to develop further after making just 15 appearances for St-Etienne last season.
“[Saliba] had a year where Arsenal essentially loaned him to Saint-Etienne and that was a transition year for him,” he said after their Carabao Cup fourth round win over Liverpool.
“For many reasons, that wasn't the transition year that he needed because he had a lot of injuries, he had some personal issues and obviously with COVID and the French league getting cancelled, he didn't have that year, so he needs that year of transition.

“He needs that year of transition and we are trying to make the right decisions for him to make the best possible year of transition for him to have the player we want for our future.”
Saliba is yet to make a competitive appearance for Arsenal since his move from St-Etienne, although he has appeared in pre-season friendlies against Aston Villa and MK Dons.
