Barcelona's young starlet Pedri was one of the breakout stars of the 20/21 campaign before he impressed at Euro 2020 and the Olympics.

Pedri has reportedly signed a new deal at the Nou Camp as Barcelona's executives look to build the side around the Spaniard.

The 18-year-old looks set to be the Catalan sides next big star after the departure of Lionel Messi to PSG earlier this summer.

However, Arsenal passed up the chance to sign the youngster when he was at Las Palmas.

Journalist Matt Law tweeted: "Just been told that Arsenal passed up the chance to sign Pedri from Las Palmas a couple of years ago. Oh well, no biggie…"

Pedri is a native of the Canary Islands, the Spanish owned islands where Las Palmas are based, and he spent one year with the Island side.

However, he came into his own after a move to Barcelona.

Part of Pedri's brilliance is his best position is hard to pin down; the Spaniard can operate in the centre of the park, out wide, or even as an attacking outlet.

The €5million Barca spent on the youngster is already looking to be one of the best bits of business the Catalan side have completed in a long time.

Pedri was named as the young player of the tournament at Euro 2020, where his talents turned to international recognition.

No player ran further than the youngster, and only Kalvin Phillips and Jorginho came close.

Pedri was commander in chief for a Spanish side that reached the semi-finals.

The 18-year-old attempted the most passes in an opponent's half, with 348, and he had the third-highest completion rate from these passes (91.1%).

Pedri earned plaudits for his performances over the summer, the only blot in his copybook being his own goal against Croatia in the Last 16.

Barcelona will now be hoping for similar performances, while Arsenal will rue their missed opportunity.
