It has been a pretty miserable week for Arsenal after Mikel Arteta’s side crashed out of the Europa League in humiliating circumstances, but it ended on a high after Liverpool finally lost a Premier League match for the first time this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s relentless winning machine had been threatening to match Arsene Wenger’s 2003/04 Invincibles, but came unstuck in spectacular fashion at Vicarage Road at the 28th hurdle.
Watford’s record signing Ismaila Sarr scored twice within the first 15 minutes of the second half and Troy Deeney made the game safe with a cool finish in the 72nd minute to cap a convincing 3-0 victory.
Liverpool had also been closing in on Arsenal’s all-time English record of 49 matches unbeaten and were left licking their wounds, despite still enjoying a mammoth 22-point lead over second place Manchester City.
The demise of Klopp’s side was not lost on the official Arsenal Twitter account which, after initially tweeting ‘Phew’, sent their Liverpool counterparts a classy message congratulating the Merseysiders on their own astonishing sequence of results.

While the majority of the focus will understandably centre on Liverpool’s defeat, the win represented an enormous boost for struggling Watford who climbed out of the relegation zone following the biggest victory of Nigel Pearson’s short tenure.
