Arsenal star’s father makes transfer confession despite Mikel Arteta contract offer

Shkodran Mustafi’s father has claimed that “nothing is ruled out” as speculation over his Arsenal future continues. Under Unai Emery, Mustafi looked destined to leave the Gunners, with the Spaniard claiming it would be “positive” for the defender to move on.

But since Mikel Arteta’s appointment last year, the much maligned centre-back has enjoyed a renaissance of sorts at the Emirates.

The German had become a regular under Arteta, before suffering an injury in the FA Cup semi final win over Man City.

Since his return in recent weeks, Mustafi has gone straight back into Arteta’s plans, as his injury issues ease.

But recent reports have claimed that the 27-year-old has rejected a new contract with the Gunners and will look to leave on a free at the end of the season.

Arteta recently admitted that “internal situations” were being discussed, as they look to tie him to a new deal.

“Mustafi is completely fit to play. Obviously the internal contractual situations are going to be discussed,” he said.

“I have been very happy with Mustafi since I joined, the progress he has made and the performances he has had.

“He had a long-term injury, he has worked so hard to get back into the position where he is today and I just want him to show again the trust that we have in him and get the performances that we have in the past from him as well.”

With just months left on his contract, Arsenal will be keen to get to a final resolution, but his father Kujtim has hinted that his future may lie away from north London.

“Nothing is ruled out, we can imagine everything, because Shkodran is a free agent in the summer,” his father Kujtim has been is quoted by German outlet Sport1.

Mustafi himself has spoken in more positive terms about a potential new contract, claiming he still has respect for the club.

The centre-back added that despite not thinking about a new contract, he would be happy to stay with Arsenal.

He said:  “When I made a decision to sign for Arsenal it is because I respect this club.

“It is a huge club, that’s why for me if I could stay at Arsenal, of course it would mean a lot to me.

“At the end of the day, it was important for me in the last three months to come back after the injury and to be ready to play and to help my team.

“When you hopefully get a few games, you can maybe look at the future but at the moment for me it has been difficult because in the last months.

“I haven’t really been thinking about the end of my contract or what’s going on with the future because all I wanted was to be back as quick as possible.”
