Arsenal have reportedly suffered a transfer blow after it emerged that Ajax keeper Andre Onana’s verbally agreed to join Inter Milan next summer. The Gunners have been long-time admirers of the 25-year-old and had been heavily linked with a move for the player in the summer.
Onana came through the Barcelona academy before moving to Holland at the start of 2015.
He established himself as Ajax’s first-choice stopper at the beginning of the 2016/17 campaign and has gone on to make 204 appearances for the club.
The Cameroon international has won two Eredivisie league titles and two Dutch Cups with Ajax, and also has 24 Champions League games under his belt.
But Onana hasn’t played since February after he was suspended for testing positive for banned substance furosemide.
The keeper was found to have the diuretic in his urine after providing a sample for an out of competition check at the end of last October.

He said he had accidentally taken some of his wife’s medicine while feeling unwell after mistaking it for aspirin but was banned for 12 months. His suspension was later reduced to nine months after an appeal.
Despite his enforced spell on the sidelines, Onana has still been targeted by a string of clubs, with Lyon and Nice apparently in discussions with the player earlier this year.
But, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the former Barca man now looks set to move to Serie A.
“Inter have reached a verbal agreement with Andre Onana since last July,” Romano wrote on Twitter.

“He’s ready to join as free agent in 2022. Contract NOT signed yet but at final stages. That’s why OL and Nice talks collapsed.”
After their interest in Onana failed to result in a move to north London, Arsenal shelled out £30million to sign Sheffield United keeper Aaron Ramsdale.
The 23-year-old claimed the No 1 spot within weeks of arriving at the Emirates Stadium as he jumped ahead of Germany international Bernd Leno.
Ramsdale, who was relegated with the Blades last season, has kept an impressive four clean sheets in his first five matches for Arsenal in all competitions.
Leno, himself, had been linked with a move to Inter, but Romano says the Serie A champions were never likely to make a move for the 29-year-old.
“Inter want Onana as new goalkeeper – Leno was never an option,” added Romano.
Onana has now served his ban but has been condemned to train with the Ajax youth team for now.
“We have decided that Andre will start goalkeeper training and team training sessions with Jong Ajax,” said former Arsenal winger and current Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars.
“We have now moved on without him and have recruited two keepers during his suspension.”
