Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will have to carefully consider his team selection ahead of two matches in less than 48 hours. Before the lunchtime visit of Wolves on Tuesday is the Boxing Day clash against Norwich at Carrow Road. Arteta has named the same starting XI for the last four Premier League matches. Express Sport looks at how the Gunners could line up today.

Goalkeeper – Ramsdale

Aaron Ramsdale will play all matches over the festive period if he stays fit.

The summer signing has been in stunning form in goal for Arteta’s side.

Bernd Leno didn’t put a foot wrong in the Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Sunderland on Tuesday.

But Ramsdale is very much the No 1 in Arteta’s eyes at present.

Defence – Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney

Arteta will want to stick with his first-choice back four as much as possible in the coming games.

Takehiro Tomiyasu went off injured in the win over Leeds last week but he is expected to be fit.

Ben White was replaced by Gabriel during the second half of the Sunderland win, hinting that both are being protected for the busy schedule.

Kieran Tierney is likely to get the nod at left-back for this one but don’t be surprised if Nuno Tavares starts against Wolves.

Tierney’s recent injury record may mean two games in quick succession is not a wise idea.

Midfield – Partey, Xhaka; Odegaard

Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka have been the go-to midfield duo of late.

Partey will be used as much as possible before he heads off to the African Cup of Nations.

Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are both back in training following Covid and illness respectively, so Arteta has other options.

However, the Gunners boss is likely to stick with Partey and Xhaka when possible.

Martin Odegaard has shone in recent weeks in the No 10 role and was given a rest for the Sunderland clash, so should be ready to go.

Attack – Saka, Lacazette, Martinelli

Eddie Nketiah is pushing for a starting spot following his hat-trick in midweek.

But Arteta won’t want to break up his successful front line if he can help it.

Alexandre Lacazette has not scored of late but his movement off the ball is helping get the best out of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Emile Smith Rowe may have to wait until Tuesday for his return to the starting XI.

Arsenal’s expected XI vs Norwich in full: Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney; Partey, Xhaka; Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli; Lacazette.
