Arteta wants ‘two marquee signing’ including star who hailed him "fantastic"

Mikel Arteta reportedly has his eye on Manchester City ace Gabriel Jesus as one of ‘two marquee signings’ for Arsenal.

The Gunners are expected to be in the market for a new striker or two as they are currently set to lose Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette for nothing at the end of the current campaign. After a spectacular summer transfer window at the start of the season, Gunners’ technical director Edu recently stated the club are preparing moves for “two marquee signings” in the summer.

With Arsenal currently in pole position to finish in fourth place and qualify for the Champions League, after their smashing 3-1 home victory over Manchester United, a huge summer of transfers is being anticipated on the red side of north London. And many reports understand one of those could be Jesus.

The Brazilian sent a huge statement with a magnificent four goal haul in Pep Guardiola’s side’s 5-1 home victory over Watford. In fact, his quartet of goals against Roy Hodgson’s relegation battling Hornets was more than his entire tally for the Premier League season.

Jesus has now contributed seven goals and nine assists in 24 league appearances for the reigning champions. And reports from Football.London understand he has an admirer in Arteta, who is reportedly courting a move for the former Palmeiras ace.

The 25-year-old hitman will enter the final year of his contract at the start of the season, meaning City’s final chance of extracting a fee for the pacey forward will be this summer. And Jesus’ previous quotes on the Gunners boss could suggest that he may be keen on reuniting with Guardiola’s former assistant manager.

"He's (Arteta) helped a lot of players. When I want to do finishing after training, I tell him and he comes and helps me,” Jesus said shortly after Arteta was appointed by Arsenal.

"So he is really fantastic for us. All the players know that — everyone knows that in the club. He is a fantastic guy and fantastic manager.

“I don't honestly know what he thinks about his career, that is for him. I hope he can find his way and I hope he can be happy."
