Aymeric Laporte's winning header for Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final has left Tottenham fans fuming, believing he avoided a red card.

The Frenchman climbed highest to reach Kevin de Bruyne's free kick, clinching the first silverware of the season for Pep Guardiola at Wembley.

But he was lucky to be on the pitch, having picked up a yellow card just before half time as well as avoiding any punishment for an earlier foul on Lucas Moura.

Laporte had a coming-together with the Brazilian after 25 minutes, fouling the forward before he could break away.

It saw Spurs demand a yellow card from referee Paul Tierney – but the man in the middle did not punish the City star.

While the 26-year-old got tangled with Moura again just before half time, not making an attempt for the ball as the Brazilian nearly slips away.

And the Spurs faithful were left furious that it was the centre-back who provided the winning touch in the final.

"Laporte should not have been on the pitch so that’s a f***ing joke," one supporter said.

Another commented: "Robbed by the ref…same old story…Laporte should have been sent off but bottle job Tierney did nothing and has cost us."

While a third added: "Laporte shouldn't be on the field so of course he scores the goal."

And a fourth added: "Laporte shouldn't even be on the pitch this is mad."

City's win at Wembley is their fourth consecutive win of the Carabao Cup, having beaten Aston Villa, Chelsea and Arsenal in the previous seasons.
