Bailly’s Man Utd absence is bizarre – is he being frozen out by Solskjaer?

Eric Bailly appears to have been given the cold shoulder at Manchester United.

Bailly was axed from United’s starting line-up against Watford on Sunday – and given no explanation why he was dropped to the bench.

United defender Bailly would accept not playing after coming back from injury but the lack of communication is the biggest concern.

It has raised serious doubts about his long term future at Old Trafford with other big clubs certain to be watching developments closely.

Arsenal have been big admirers in the past, as well as their rivals Tottenham, and there is interest from Spain in Bailly whose current deal expires in 2022.

Bailly, 25, was outstanding for United in their win at Chelsea last Monday as he came back from a long term knee injury.

But having been rested against Club Brugge in the Europa League in midweek, Bailly hoped to be back to face Watford on Sunday.

However, Bailly was back on the bench and not told why he was left out to leave the Ivory Coast centre half concerned about his future.

Bailly was outstanding for United in his first season at the club but has rarely been given a chance since then to establish himself in the starting line-up.

Even a local newspaper poll said nine out of ten United fans wanted to see Bailly play in a back four against Watford but Victor Lindelof was straight back in to partner Harry Maguire.
