Barca have inserted a staggering £840million release clause into the Frenchman’s contract

‘The player will be signing a contract with the Catalan club for the next five seasons. The buyout clause has been set at one billion euros (€1,000,000,000).’

The Catalan club dramatically beat Chelsea to the signature of Kounde this week.

The Blues were the front-runners to sign the defender, but Barca swooped in at the eleventh hour to make the Frenchman their fifth addition of the summer.

The saga comes after Andreas Christensen swapped West London for Barcelona earlier in the window, while the Blaugrana also sealed the signing of Brazilian winger Raphinha ahead of Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Yet Sevilla sporting director Monchi has claimed that the Kounde transfer blunder was the Blues’ own doing.

He said: ‘On Thursday night Kounde was ‘sold’ to Chelsea. They began to have doubts and pulled out. Then Barcelona appeared. The first time Alemany got in contact was on Monday.

‘We received an offer that was lower than what we had in mind, but we renegotiated with them and reached an agreement for a club-record sale.

‘Chelsea came back again, but Barcelona’s offer was better.’

Kounde has revealed that Barcelona manager Xavi was a huge factor in his move to Catalonia

It is believed that the defender favoured a switch to Barcelona, revealing that manager Xavi was a huge factor in his decision to move to Catalonia.

Kounde said: ‘Xavi is one of the big reasons why I am here too. I spoke with hum several times, the way he spoke was captivating.’

Barca announced that Kounde trained with his new club for the first time on Friday will be ‘officially presented’ behind closed doors on Monday.
