Frenkie de Jong has decided on his Barcelona future amid links to Bayern Munich and Liverpool, according to reports in Spain. De Jong has struggled for consistency this season, especially after fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman’s sacking, and has now settled on his future plans.

Earlier this month, Sport reported Liverpool were willing to pay a hefty transfer fee to sign the 24-year-old this summer.

Jurgen Klopp wants to bolster his midfield options after failing to replace Gini Wijnaldum in the aftermath of his free transfer to PSG last summer.

And many supporters hoped De Jong was a potential opportunity amid his unrest over Koeman’s Barcelona exit.

However, Liverpool have been dealt a significant blow through an update on the Netherlands international’s transfer stance.

Sport report De Jong wants to be a part of Barcelona’s long-term project under Xavi Hernandez.

He has significant offers from elsewhere, including Liverpool, but he won’t listen to proposals this summer in line with his preference to stay at Camp Nou.

Despite his issues this season, De Jong has been a regular under Xavi and is showcasing an improvement in form.

The former Ajax star sees a big future at Barcelona under the midfield icon and is unlikely to depart.

In a disappointing Barcelona team, De Jong primarily thrived under Koeman, who offered him more freedom rather than using him as a holding midfielder sat in front of the defence.

And there had been concerns over De Jong’s performances after Xavi took charge, with some club figures favouring cashing in on him this summer amid heavyweight interest.

But he has found his feet under the Spaniard and should be a crucial fixture in the centre of his rebuild at Camp Nou.

Xavi has starlets in Pedri, Gavi and Ansu Fati to form the mould of a new generation in Catalunia.

And he revamped his attack in January, welcoming Premier League trio Ferran Torres, Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the club.

With De Jong in his plans, Liverpool may have to look elsewhere in their search for a midfield signing.

The Reds have joined Arsenal and Manchester United in being linked with Youri Tielemans, who could be available for a cut-price fee this summer after rejecting a new Leicester contract.
