Manchester United star Harry Maguire is one of three players Barcelona think they may be offered in a swap deal, it has been claimed. The Red Devils have interest in Frenkie de Jong following Erik ten Hag’s appointment as manager. And it seems like a potential move for the Netherlands international is gathering momentum as the fallen Premier League giants plan for a brighter future.

Manchester United’s new boss Ten Hag previously managed De Jong at Ajax.

And with the 24-year-old struggling for consistency at Barcelona, it’s possible the Red Devils will make a bid at the end of the season.

Now, according to Gerard Romero on Twitch, the La Liga giants think they could be offered three players in return to part ways with De Jong.

One of them is United skipper Harry Maguire.

The England international was a consistent performer for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but, since the departure of Ralf Rangnick, he’s regressed.

Maguire has failed to reach form this season, with Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane sometimes ahead of him in the pecking order.

And though United only spent £80million on the former Leicester star three years ago, a move away may now loom.

A second player Barcelona suspect they may be offered is Alex Telles.

Back in the summer transfer window of 2020, United scoured the market for a left-back to provide competition for Luke Shaw.

Telles was then consequently signed from Porto, with Solskjaer seeing the Brazil international as a potential leader for his squad.

But the Samba star has often been behind Shaw in the pecking order and, even when he’s played, has failed to convince.

He put in another lacklustre display during Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea at Old Trafford.

But Telles may enjoy his football elsewhere in Europe and Barcelona, despite having Jordi Alba, are bracing themselves.

The third player the Catalan titans think United could include in a swap deal is Marcus Rashford.

Back in the summer, the Red Devils allowed the forward to undergo shoulder surgery in the hope it would trigger a turnaround in form.

Yet with Rashford scoring just five goals across all competitions, that hasn’t worked out.

The England star has often been overlooked by Rangnick in recent weeks, with the German preferring Anthony Elanga.

Rashford was previously linked with Barcelona in 2019, with some reports even suggesting he’d agreed personal terms with the La Liga side.

And it’ll be interesting to see what happens with the 24-year-old, who still has time on his side to become a club great.

Eight players have turned out for United and Barcelona over the years.

Mark Hughes, Jordi Cruyff and Laurent Blanc turned out for both teams, winning trophies with the pair.

Henrik Larsson was successful at Barcelona and spent a brief time with United upon arriving on loan from Helsingborg in January 2007.

And Gerard Pique, Victor Valdes, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexis Sanchez have also enjoyed stints with both teams.

Meanwhile, former Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman thinks United will struggle to convince the Catalan outfit into letting De Jong go.

“I don’t think Barca want to sell Frenkie,” he said.

“I think Xavi has said that he is the future.”

“Frenkie is a great player, a great midfielder. He goes through some games where he has not been at his level but there is no doubt about Frenkie.

“I have no doubts, for me he is a permanent fixture in the national team and I hope he comes back [to form] as he has played many games.”
