Philippe Coutinho’s Barcelona exit gathers pace ‘as it is now down to two clubs’ and a decision on a January move for the Brazilian midfielder ‘is set to be revealed TODAY’
- Philippe Coutinho will prioritise the footballing project when picking a new club
- The Brazilian player has reportedly got down to two offers for a January move
- Coutinho will make a call on a move by Friday afternoon, a new report claimed
There are reportedly just two clubs left in the running to secure Philippe Coutinho’s signature this month – and it has been claimed a decision on the Barcelona exile’s future could be revealed on Friday.
The 29-year-old has been offered to a number of Premier League clubs with Barcelona keen to lose his and other high salaries off their books so that they can register new £55million signing Ferran Torres.
It was reported that there were ‘five or six’ teams in the running, all interested in taking Coutinho in the winter window, but Sky Sports have since reported it has been whittled down to the final two.
A decision on Philippe Coutinho’s future is reportedly set to be revealed as early as Friday
While live on air discussing Coutinho’s situation, Sky reporter Kaveh Solhekol confirmed he had received a text message from ‘somebody close to the player’s camp’ which stated that only two teams are left in the running.
‘Barcelona have said he can leave, they want a deal done very, very quickly,’ Solhekol continued.
‘Yesterday we told you it was five clubs, then a sixth club expressed an interest in signing him. The latest information we have, just came into me two minutes ago, just a message: “We are down to two clubs”. That is the latest on Philippe Coutinho.’
Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard wants to sign his former Liverpool team-mate this month
Sportsmail reported this week that while Barcelona are keen to ship Coutinho out, the Brazilian is determined to prioritise the footballing project as he decides his next move this month.
He has already been offered to Everton and Sportsmail detailed that he has been in talks with Aston Villa, who are managed by his former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard.
Coutinho wants to reach a resolution on a move so he can get to work with his new team and Solhekol went on to add a decision could be revealed as early as Friday afternoon.
The former Inter midfielder moved to Barcelona in January 2018 for £142m but has struggled
He added: ‘I went back and I asked “when are we going to get this decision?”. We were told it was going to be by the weekend.
‘The message I’ve just got back is that a decision is expected by tomorrow afternoon.’
Coutinho moved to Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018 in a deal estimated to be worth £142million.
However, the switch to Spain never worked out as Coutinho envisaged and he was loaned out to Bayern Munich in 2019 for a year before returning to the Nou Camp.
