Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic insists Manchester United did not launch an offer to sign Kingsley Coman – and they would never have let him go anyway.
Reports emerged over the summer suggesting United had identified Coman as an alternative target to Jadon Sancho, who was the subject of interest from the Premier League club throughout the transfer window.
Borussia Dortmund refused to budge on their £108million asking price for Sancho, nevertheless, rejecting a bid worth £90million from the Red Devils.
Yet instead of turning to Coman or other rumoured target Gareth Bale, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side instead secured a £36million deal to sign 18-year-old winger Amad Traore – who will officially join from Atalanta in January.
And Salihamidzic has revealed United never approached Bayern about Coman in the summer transfer window, while stressing that the France international was not up for sale anyway.
“There was nothing, and we wouldn't have looked into it either,” the Bayern chief told Sport Bild.
“His goal in the Champions League final should explain enough why we are relying on him wholeheartedly.”
Coman joined Bayern on an initial loan deal from Juventus in 2015, before securing a permanent move two years later.
The 24-year-old has suffered a number of injury setbacks in the time since, with a knee injury keeping him out of action for most of the 2019/20 campaign.
However, he returned in time to help Hansi Flick’s men clinch a historic treble.
In fact, Coman netted the winning goal in their Champions League final triumph over Paris St-Germain on August 23, heading home at the back post following an inch-perfect cross into the box from Joshua Kimmich.
While United may not have gone after the Bayern star, they still managed to bolster Solskjaer’s squad in the summer window – albeit with a number of deals being completed on transfer deadline day.
