Bruno Fernandes left fuming with referee Mike Dean after Marcus Rashford goal

Bruno Fernandes’ immediate focus after Marcus Rashford’s crucial equaliser against Brighton wasn’t to celebrate with his team-mate.

Instead, the furious Manchester United star turned his attention to referee Mike Dean.

The Portuguese playmaker’s mazy run towards goal helped United get back into the game at Old Trafford as he eventually teed up Rashford with a neat pass.

But in laying the ball off to the England forward, Fernandes was hacked from behind by Brighton defender Joel Veltman.

The dangerous late challenge caught Fernandes and could have done serious damage to his ankles.

Radhford wheeled away to relish in the moment, drawing United level at 1-1 just after the hour mark, while Fernandes moaned about how Veltman deserved punishment.

The clear foul was not penalised any further by Dean, though, as he opted against booking Veltman.

That angered Fernandes, as well as United striker Edinson Cavani, who ironically was yellow carded by the referee for his protestations on Fernandes’ behalf.

United got the last laugh as Mason Greenwood grabbed the winner in the 83rd minute to move Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side four points clear of third-placed Leicester.

After the game in which United academy product Danny Welbeck had given Brighton the lead, Greenwood told BT Sport: "It was a hard night.

"When they scored the first goal we knew we had to react and put in a better performance. Everyone was excellent in the second half.

"I don't think we started very well but we knew we had to switch on and be focused.
