Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti gave an amusing response when asked about Luka Modric’s glaring miss on Thursday night, joking that he was lucky that Croatia had already announced their World Cup squad.
Modric had a moment to forget with his side 2-0 as Vinicius Jr made his way into the box on the left and rolled the ball across goal.
The Croatian was there to meet it with the goal gaping and the keeper out of the picture but somehow managed to put the ball wide from four yards.

Fortunately for him it didn’t cost his side as they saw out a 2-1 victory.
And boss Ancelotti clearly saw the funny side when he was asked about it following the game.
‘I told him that luckily the call for Croatia is already made and he has no problems,’ he said.

Modric will captain his side in Qatar, having led them to the final back in 2018.
Croatia will be looking to excel at the tournament later this month after finishing second in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The pressure will be on Dalic’s shoulders heading into the tournament and he will be hoping his selected squad will get the job done.
Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has been included in Dalic’s 26-man squad. He will be joined by Josko Gvardiol – who was widely linked with a £78m move to Chelsea in the summer.

The defensive line will also include Domagoj Vida, Borna Barisic, Josip Juranovic, Borna Sosa, Josip Stanisic, Martin Erlic and Josip Sutalo.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric will front-up the Croatian midfield in Qatar. He will be joined by notable names such as Marcelo Brozovic and Kovacic.
Modric – who has won 154 caps for his country – will be hoping Croatia can do one better than the 2018 tournament in Russia as he will retire from international football after this year’s edition.
Perisic has been selected for the tournament in Qatar and will be joined by the likes of Andrej Kramaric and Ante Budimir up front.
Marko Livaja has also secured a place in the Croatia squad after excelling domestically with Hajduk Split.
