Jamie Carragher has once again twisted the knife into Manchester United after using rockstar Noel Gallagher to mock Liverpool’s rivals following their 7-0 thrashing in the Premier League. The Reds inflicted a damaging defeat on United at Anfield with a devastating attacking display and it seems Carragher is not quite ready to let the celebrations lie after aiming another jibe at the Red Devils.

Jurgen Klopp’s side ran riot at Anfield in the clash on March 5 with Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah all scoring twice, with a late goal from Roberto Firmino completing the rout. It was United’s heaviest Premier League defeat against Liverpool and the seven-goal loss equalled the worst margin of defeat in their history.

Just 10 days later, Carragher was at the Etihad Stadium to witness Manchester City romp to a 7-0 victory over RB Leipzig in their Champions League last-16 knockout clash, with goal machine Erling Haaland stealing the headlines with a magnificent five-goal haul.

And in his post-match interview with die-hard City fan and former Oasis singer Gallagher, as well as his fellow CBS Sport pundits Thierry Henry and Micah Richards, Carragher could not resist interrupting with some Liverpool-centric humour.

Presenter Jules Breach, filling in for Kate Abdo, said: “Noel, what a night for your team! I bet you didn’t expect seven [goals]?”

Gallagher replied: “No, I was just saying I thought it was going to be a tight game. I thought it would be the odd goal. But seven in the Champions League is special and, as for the big man [Haaland], words fail you.”

Carragher then made a quick quip which was a clear reference to Liverpool’s 7-0 mauling of Manchester United, saying: “Only top teams get seven goals!” before laughing to himself.

Gallagher let out a half-hearted chuckle in response and replied: “This is right, this is right.”

It comes after Carragher appeared to bury the hatchet with former United defender Rio Ferdinand, who had claimed Carragher’s jibes and Liverpool’s overzealous celebrations pointed to their “small club mentality”.

“That is a small club mentality,” he said recently on his Five podcast. “That screams small club. Screaming and celebrating we beat Man United, they battered us hands up.

“[Graeme] Souness and Carragher was celebrating, the way they were trying to antagonise the guys and then their team goes and does that at the weekend. They should be ashamed of themselves. Liverpool aren’t finishing in the Champions League.”

But the pair were spotted laughing and joking with each other pitchside on Tuesday, according to the Daily Mail, with Ferdinand playing down their apparent feud by insisting his comments were tongue-in-cheek.
