Chelsea 'enter the £130m fight to sign Jude Bellingham'

Chelsea ‘enter the £130m fight to sign Jude Bellingham – but are stuck behind Real Madrid and Liverpool’, with new owner Todd Boehly ready to muscle in on a deal

  • The 19-year-old star has attracted interest from a host of top European clubs
  • Bellingham has impressed with his performances for Dortmund and England
  • Chelsea have joined a growing list of clubs hoping to sign the midfielder
  • The club have reportedly been told they are already behind Real and Liverpool

Chelsea have reportedly entered the race for Borussia Dortmund and England star Jude Bellingham, joining a queue of clubs fighting for the midfielder’s signature.

Bellingham is one of Europe’s hottest properties and is set to be the focus of several top clubs in next summer’s transfer window.

The 19-year-old has attracted the attention of the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid with his performances for the German side. His stock could also rise at this year’s World Cup, where he is expected to form a key part of England’s midfield.

Bellingham is valued at around £130million by Dortmund, who will be keen on retaining one of their prize assets.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea have already been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the player as the new owners at Stamford Bridge have been told they are behind Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Chelsea, who splurged more than £270m in a record transfer spend in the summer, are playing catch up as they look to lure Bellingham to west London, The Telegraph reports.

The club failed to land any of their midfield targets in the most recent window as they had efforts to sign Edson Alvarez from Ajax and Ibrahim Sangare from PSV Eindhoven rebuffed before landing Denis Zakaria on loan from Juventus.

Todd Boehly will be hoping to bolster the club’s midfield after several failed moves

Midfield is likely to be a priority area for Todd Boehly’s Clearlake Capital ownership during the transfer window next year.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wanted to sign Bellingham this summer but admitted that he wasn’t available.

Reports in Spain claim Real have been keeping an eye on the player since 2019 and made contact with the player in 2022, when unsure if Aurelien Tchouameni would agree to join.

Manchester United have also expressed an interest and even showed Bellingham around their training ground in March 2020 in a hope of persuading him to join the club.

Bellingham has impressed with his performances from Borussia Dortmund and England

Bellingham could be available for just £83million next summer but Dortmund would require that fee to be paid up front.

The Borussia Dortmund man made a deep impression on the England squad in the international break and many say a sign of his maturity comes from how he is speaking to different players rather than those of his own age.

‘Jude can play in a holding role, he can play as an eight, he can play as a No 10,’ West Ham midfielder Declan Rice said of Bellingham.

‘He can play anywhere in midfield and I know he’s going to be crucial for us. Every time I play with Jude we’re building that connection.

‘Hopefully he keeps flourishing. I say to him, ‘You go and bomb on and attack and I’ll sit here and defend for you!’
