Chelsea fans celebrate after "proper professional" Rudiger gets suspended

Chelsea fans are delighted at star defender Antonio Rudiger receiving a suspension while on international duty for Germany.

Germany demolished Liechtenstein in the World Cup qualifiers on Thursday, winning 9-0 as the 2010 world champions proved too much for their small neighbours.

Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane, Marco Reus, Thomas Muller and Ridle Baku were among the goal-scorers for Germany, with Hansi Flick’s side going nine-points clear at the top of ‘Group J’.

However, a casualty of the win was Rudiger, who received a yellow card during the match and will therefore be suspended for the next international game away in Armenia.

But Chelsea fans are thrilled at the idea of their centre-back missing the long-trip on Sunday.

Instead, Rudiger will now likely return to Chelsea training on Monday having received a timely rest before the busy winter schedule begins.

And Blues supporters have taken to Twitter to celebrate the 28-year-old’s “professionalism” in supposedly prioritising club over country.

One ecstatic fan Tweeted: “Proper professional! Chelsea comes first and he now gets to return to Cobham early.

“Give him that new contract. Make him captain. Give him whatever he wants.”

Another went on to add that the defender was aware of being close to suspension, saying: “I’m sure he knew he was a yellow card away from getting the rest of the week off.”

Chelsea face Leicester City next in the Premier League as they look to extend their lead three points at the top of the table.

The Blues will then play Juventus at home in the Champions League before facing Manchester United, with Rudiger require to be on top form to keep Cristiano Ronaldo at bay.
