Chelsea are currently competing with Paris Saint-Germain to seal the signing of Achraf Hakimi. And with any deal for the Morocco international far from straightforward, a swap deal could hold the key to getting the transfer over the line. Now, Express Sport will take a look at five players who could hold the key – after Inter Milan supposedly demanded Marcos Alonso.

Emerson Palmieri/Marcos Alonso

As things stand, Inter want two Chelsea players as part of a swap deal.

It’s believed that, should the Blues include Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso in their offer, the Serie A giants are willing to negotiate.

That would mean Chelsea cutting two squad players loose, with neither vital assets to Thomas Tuchel since the German’s appointment.

However, it would also leave the Blues short defensively when it comes to left-backs – with just Ben Chilwell to call upon.

Therefore, Chelsea may opt to look at using different players instead…

Tammy Abraham

Inter Milan could find themselves losing Lautaro Martinez this summer, especially as they look to balance the books.

Therefore, they’d be a striker down – and potentially willing to take Tammy Abraham on board.

The Chelsea striker is expected to be sold by Tuchel after falling down the German’s pecking order, spending the final few months of the season watching on from the bench.

Abraham clearly needs a new challenge to test himself, especially after missing out on England’s Euro 2020 squad.

And he could follow in the footsteps of the likes of Ashley Cole, Chris Smalling and Ashley Young by chancing his arm in Italy.

Andreas Christensen

Andreas Christensen has never quite become the John Terry replacement many thought he would be.

And with Tuchel set to stick to playing three at the back next season, he could find himself having to accept a lesser role in the capital.

Inter have long admired Christensen, with interest dating back several years.

Chelsea are well-stocked at centre-back, having the likes of Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger and even Cesar Azpilicueta capable of playing there.

Therefore, Chelsea may decide to use Christensen to break Inter’s resolve.

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Chelsea are kidding themselves if they think they can get anywhere near their £72million investment on Kepa Arrizabalaga back.

Signed from Valencia in 2018, the Spain international has never lived up to expectations.

So Chelsea would be wise by trying to include Kepa in a swap deal for Hakimi, who Tuchel sees as a vital signing for his side to evolve.

With Inter seeing Samir Handanovic enter the twilight years of his career, they’re already starting to look for a replacement amid interest in Fiorentina’s Bartlomiej Dragowski.

And using Kepa may be a smart move that ends up suiting all parties involved.
