Chelsea name Petr Cech in 25-man Premier League squad in unprecedented move

Petr Cech could be coming out of retirement – at the age of 38.

Former Chelsea keeper Cech has been included on the club’s Premier League squad list.

Cech, who is now the club’s technical and performance advisor, has been added to the list as emergency cover.

A statement from the club declared: “Petr Cech has been included in the squad as emergency goalkeeper cover.

“This is a precautionary step due to the unprecedented conditions currently caused by the Covid-19 crisis.

“He takes up a position as a non-contract player.”

Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero are also on the list.

But Chelsea’s 'keeper problems have been a huge issue for Frank Lampard.

Kepa, the club’s record £71million keeper, has suffered a nightmare and has been dropped after Chelsea signed Mendy for £24m from Rennes.

Cech has been pictured taking part in training sessions after taking Mendy under his wing.

The ex-Arsenal stopper is renowned as the club's greatest keeper of all time as well as still being in good shape.

He is however likely to only feature for Lampard's men in the very worst of situations.
